The largest air rescue organization in Switzerland, the REGA rescue service, was founded in 1952 and coordinates all operations from Zurich Airport. By the end of 1995, they had acquired fifteen Augusta A-109 K2 rescue helicopters. These machines are designed to transport and provide medical care for seriously injured patients. The A-109-K2 is tailored to REGA requirements and meets their strict job specifications, including: two engined drive, low operational weight, winch for 2 people with 50 m long cable, service ceiling 4,500 m above sea level .
